A Message from Odex to the World - All Your Animes Are Belong To Us! [YHBT]

Subject: Legal

I would like to know if this is legal.
Is it legal for me to seed torrents from this page?

Reply:

I hate to break this to you, but it is never legal to download or distribute copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder. This means it is illegal to download anime, whether or not it is licensed. The only thing that licensing changes is the probability that someone will be prosecuted. It is wishful thinking to pretend that it is “allowed” under any circumstances. That being said, unless you live in Singapore, you are unlikely to get into trouble for downloading or seeding the anime we sub.

LOL Singapore,
lafnear

This excerpt is taken from dattebayo. The notoriety of Odex is not confined within the borders of Singapore but instead, it resounds through the whole world. This has made Singapore become ‘famous’ for being an anti-animes hub. Other countries might still be happily downloading animes while at the same time, laughing at us for having a company known as Odex Private International Limited. What I would like to tell them is this:

LOL The World,
Alvin
Lustrous Realm

I hate to break this news to all but yes. It’s no longer just Singapore being tortured by the evil actions of Odex. It’s now on a global scale. I repeat. A global scale. You could say that I’m actually quite surprised over this news when I first read Dark Mirage’s entry. Don’t believe me? Here’s an evidence.

The victim is from Japan, the place where animes first begun and yet, they are under the onslaught of a small foreign company coming from a small little dot on the world map. How ironic is this?

Wow this is seriously getting very exciting, and like Chraen, I’m definitely interested to see what happens next. Odex going on a global scale to wipe out illegal anime downloads from the face of the earth is even more exciting than knowing that Dumbledore is gay. In the past, we used to think that if a certain anime is not licensed, Odex will then not have the rights to catch us for downloading that anime. Once again, this needs some amendments.

Over the past few days some disturbing news has reached the AnimeSuki email box: it seems several Comcast (an US internet provider) users have received DMCA notices for unlicensed anime. It seems there might be some fact to the news reported in the Japan Asks America to Stop Illegal Net Releases of Anime thread after all.

So far DMCA notices have been reported involving the following anime (Japanese anime studios in parenthesis) [fansubgroup in brackets]:
- Suteki Tantei Labyrinth (Studio Deen) [OOM]
- Gundam 00 (Sunrise / Mainichi Broadcasting) [Conclave/Mendoi]
- Seto no Hanayome (AIC / avex / Gonzo) [?]
- Nagasarete Airantou (feel / Starchild) [Ayako]
- Shugo Chara! (Satelight) [Raw]
- Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (Studio Deen) [Philantrophy]

As you can see there is no real pattern, other than that the anime was unlicensed and the people who received the notices were Comcast users.

The animes above which initiated the sending of those “You’re Odexed!” letters have not yet been licensed by Odex nor any other companies. Yet, people have already been caught by Odex for downloading them. This basically means one thing - As long as you are downloading any videos which fall under the category of “Animes”, you’re doomed Odexed. I can already foresee the death of fansubs in the near future.

So what are the choices left in order to satisfy our weekly needs for animes?

1) XDCC Bots
2) Direct Download Sites
-Baka Wolf
-animeEDEN
3) Videos Streaming Sites
-Stage 6
-Anime Start
-Anitube
4) Torrent Clients

By the way, should any Odex correspondents chance upon this site, (I doubt they won’t, anyway, since they are always busy suing people.) I must clarify that I, erm… only partake in Option 3. Please don’t sue Odex me!!! Below you can see that I’m actually pro-Odex.

I sincerely applaud your efforts at breaking up families and causing them to go bankrupt and have always hold you in high admiration. Please continue your endeavours and I will always be there to support you! If you ever need my help, just email me and I will be glad to offer you my service. You can contact me at odexsux@hotmail.com.

The only thing we can do right now is to sit back and enjoy the ‘philanthropic’ actions by Odex and how it attacks the whole world. Another alternative is to support pro-Odex communities.

I rest my case.

Basically ODEX will become a new word in the English dictionary to mean deep faggotry and/or the act of being sued / buttraped .

  3. “LOL The World,
    Alvin
    Lustrous Realm”

That’s exactly what I’d like to say as well xD

  4. The Japanese e-mailed posted it up on ASuki, and I think it was subbed for FormulaSubs, not raw.

  5. Congratulations Odex. They see the fruit NOW, extra profits from suing people, but look into the long term.

But what happens when DVD sales go down because NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THE ANIME!

I would not have bought any dvds if I hadn’t seen the fansubs first. No way that I’m shelling out that kind of cash on an unknown anime. Especially when the subs on DVDs quite often suck.

There has long been a balance in the anime world. Fansubbers translate and allow the anime from Japan to be shown and understood by the world at large. When it becomes popular and licensed because it has been exposed to the world, people buy the DVDs knowing it is good if/when it gets licensed.

What kind of anime world do you want to live in Odex?

  6. Kurotsuki@ Yup I totally agree with u, especially with the sued/buttraped part!

chraen@ Great minds think alike! LOL

DigiGatou@ Hmm I’m nt too sure about tt though…

BakaWolf@ Yea very true.we buy an anime only after knowing it’s good. If Odex is out to exterminate fansubs, it will decrease our chances of buying the real DVDs, let along Odex’s products. Whatever ways, Odex is doomed. Period.

  7. Speaking of which, my cousins in Malaysia, where downloading anime is more rife than in Singapore, were commenting that they were amazed what Odex was doing to the anime community in Singapore….. its basically killing the community we all know and love….

  8. another alternative is manga, because some anime comes from manga and they have not target manga too, but if they do then they have extra ppl who hate them!
