Summary

The chapter begins by showing Oz being utterly defeated by the Strawhats.

The zombies thought that the Strawhats had won this fight. A comedic moment followed whereby the zombies were surprised by the chibified Luffy. (His size will shrink after activating Gear Third.) Dawn was arriving and the zombies urged Luffy to make Moria return back their shadows. Mora woke up shortly after and told them that the Strawhats are going to die no matter what, and even if Moria had allowed them to continue peacefully on their voyage, they are nowhere near ready for the ‘New World’. Moria then said that zombies are the best kind of nakama (comrades) as they are invulnerable and even if they are purified, they can be replaced anytime.

Moria then used his greatest ability of his Devil Fruit, ‘Shadows Asgard’. This allowed him to absorb 1000 shadows into his body from the other zombies across Thriller Bark, and he became an over-sized monster. The value is 10 times that of Luffy’s, whom only had 100 shadows in his body back then. With one punch, Moria smashed the island. The zombies started to run back into the forest to avoid direct contact with the sunlight. Unfortunately, it was too late for some and some zombies had already started to disappear.

Among all the zombies, Captain Lola was the only one who didn’t run away. She saw that the Strawhats were still determined to fight Moria even though some of them had their shadows stolen. Their determination touched Captain Lola and she felt that it would be irresponsible of her to leave them just like that after having dragged them into this battle.

Luffy then announced that he was going to go a bit wild from now on. He then went into his Gear Second stance and told Moria that he would show him a nightmare and that he’s not going to play nice with him.

Personal Opinions 

Great! Gear Second is finally in action! To be honest, I actually feel that Gear Second is stronger than Gear Third. (Even though 3 is a bigger number than 2.) That’s simply because Gear Second has an awesome fast speed which even Lucci’s Soru can’t catch up with. In terms of destructive power, Gear Third would no doubt win Gear Second, but in terms of speed and accuracy, Gear Second simply owns Gear Third. Gear Third is simply too easy for anyone to dodge it since it’s such a slow attack. However, if it does hit, we can be sure that the opponent will be heavily damaged.

What we’re most interested to find out next week is how Luffy is gonna thrash Moria with his Gear Second. Nothing much to say for this week’s chapter since there’s not much fighting involved. Hope this arc ends soon.
