Naruto 382 – Jiraiya is DEAD!!!

Summary
The chapter begins by showing Jiraiya on the ground, about to lose his consciousness soon.
Flashbacks then filled the rest of the chapter except for the last 2 pages. He reminisced about his entire life and thought that he has led a life of failures – He was turned down by Tsunade every time; He couldn’t save his friend (Orochimaru); He failed to protect his student (Fourth Hokage, also Naruto’s dad) and teacher (Third Hokage, killed by Orochimaru). He has written his life into a book called ‘Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya’. (I would love to read it!!! Hope Masashi Kishimoto consider writing this into an external fanbook for all Jiraiya fans!!!)
The Fourth Hokage (when he was still Jiraiya’s student) thought that this book was excellent and he and his wife, Kushina, would like to name their child after the main character in the book. It doesn’t take a genius to know what’s the name. Jiraiya laughed upon hearing this and said that the name, ‘Naruto’, is just a random name he came up with while eating ramen. Kushina then came in and said that ‘Naruto’ is a beautiful name. With that, Naruto was named ‘Naruto’ and Jiraiya became his godfather.
The flashback then switched to that between Orochimaru and Jiraiya. Both of them had different views over a ninja’s true skill. Orochimaru thought that a ninja’s skill is measured by whether he can master all the jutsus in the world. Jiraiya, however, thought that a true ninja is one who possesses the spirit and gut to never give up.
The flashbacks ended and Jiraiya, despite his heart having stopped, regained consciousness once again by sheer willpower. He then transferred something (I guess it’s all the information which he has learnt about Pain.) to Pa frog. He then left that last thread of hope to Naruto, whom Jiraiya thinks is the ‘destined child’.

Personal Opinions
Much as I hate to admit it, Jiraiya’s confirmed to be dead. He has passed on the last thread of hope to Naruto, and now the responsibility of defeating Pain lies on Naruto’s shoulder. I was on the verge of tears when reading through this chapter, and I believe the anime version of it will definitely be a tear-jerker.
If Naruto knows that Jiraiya, his godfather, has died, I can’t imagine how he will react to the news. But I know one thing for sure – He will definitely get mentally unstable and his Kyuubi’s tails will appear. He will then hunt till the ends of the world for Pain. Even though Naruto is weak, I believe if he released up till the 6th or 7th tail, he WILL be able to defeat Pain. Even with 4 tails, he can already land an almost-fatal blow on Jiraiya. I shudder to think how strong he would get if his 7th tail appears…
For killing Jiraiya, Pain is now on the top of my Most-Hated-Naruto-Characters list, overtaking even Orochimaru. What a big faggot he is for killing Jiraiya.

As much as it pains me to say it, i think it was a good idea for Jiraiya to be killed off, and it shows exactly how strong Pain is, and how much of a threat he is to the ninja world. But it is a sad day,and wow is that where Naruto’s name comes from :) yeah i think Naruto wll fight pain with plenty of tails, should be good :P

But I really dun wish Jiraiya to die!!! Haix… I’m not that anxious to see Tsunade’s reaction… Naruto’s will be more exciting for sure.
And yea… Pain is freaking strong. But why kill off Jiraiya?!? I rather they kill off Kakashi or Tsunade or some other Ninja villages’ Kages to show his how strong he is, BUT NOT JIRAIYA!!!

It does not make sense for him to die right now. He is a Sannin, naruto’s godfather, master and I am sure hos training is not complete. So why kill him now. I am very interested now in how this Pain compares to Itachi, Kakashi, and Madara. If Itachi had trouble or didn’t want to fight Jiraiya, then maybe Itachi cannot defeat Pain. Man, Jiraiya is awesome but it was wrong to show a glimpse of his full ability and then have him get killed. Techniques like the ultimate Rasengan, and hermit mode demands he stay around.

people argue that pain couldn be defeated cause it was his first fight.. in all fairness it was jiraiya’s first fight too.. why make such an endearing character to jus slaughter him in his very first show of power.. it sucks.. kishimoto is either slowly deteriorating or he wants the manga to end.. since the latter is not true, i guess i have to go with his unskilled way of handling characters he so craftily created and colored that they almost became real, in the second part of naruto.. he really needs to go back to his notes..

If naruto is the destined child, this means that his power is the kyuubi which may bring salvation on earth or simply bring chaos!!!..the mandafrog was refering to naruto as the destined child indeed!!!…this gonna be more interesting from now on….

Wow some argued that Uchiha Obito is actually still alive.. Well this certainly is one huge possibility. Remember Tobi saying “My power! Uchiha Madara’s power!” Maybe that person IS Obito and he is saying that as he feels that Madara’s powers rightfully belongs to him and that he wants to have it…
Also, it’s true though that this IS one of Jiraiya’s few fights… And for him to die just like that? That’s totally unfair to him. Yes, Pain WON’T die. It’s his FIRST fight after all. We have to accept that. But Kishimoto could at least let Jiraiya lose and let him escape or saved by someone or something. Letting him die is really one big disservice to us as fans. I can’t say for sure that there might even be some Naruto fans who are gonna stop supporting Naruto just because of Jiraiya’s death. That came too big as a blow for most of us I believe.
Well, that’s just my 2 cents’ worth though. I believe Kishimoto definitely have a faaaaaar greater plot than the ones we are all speculating about.

jiraiya may still be alive when he goes to deeper water he may transform into something, more presumably a frog statue as a last resort like a hibernation but slowly (i mean really slowly to heal) heals like years. This is just a guess and its good for those people that do not want jiraiya to be completely killed off in the naruto world.

hello? did anyone notice what Pain said about Jiraiya? He said “he got away”. Jiraiya, I believe, got away. And remember he said his next book is about Naruto? So Jiraiya might not be quite dead yet. Secondly, Pain said that he was sure Jiraiya’s heart had stopped, and pa said that Jiraiya pushed himself back to life with sheer willpower. The hermit mode has some toad-like ablibites. So he might be able to stay underwater for long times and regenerate like a tadpole ;) Who knows!
I just don’t think Jiraiya could be killed off that lamely…though it would be a bitter end to a classic character – a life marked by failures, and a death that’s rather lame too. Kinda tragic, but cool in some way too.

Hello? Did u actually see the episode? Pain said THE FROG got away, the same frog Jiraiya used to send hes last findings to Naruto! Has for beeing dead or no dead, irrelevant atm, he lost the fight, and tho I wish he could be alive, would be a little forced, he was stabbed 5 times in the back, pierced in the hand/chest and lost one arm… not even a Sanin is suppose to survive that. Maybe Naruto, cause of 9 Tails healing power, but only him…

those of you who say that tsunade is the last sanin are incredibly stupid, it is utterly obvious that orochimaru is going to come back through kabutos body, he preformed the jutsu on kabuto just before he died, he will take over kabutos body like all of the rest of the bodies he has taken over. that is why kabuto in i slast effort to reform handed over the info on akatsuki to naruto. kabuto even said orochimaru would enevtually take over his bodsy and alreayd ahs taken over more than third at this point. and i think if orochimaru survives that jiraiya will come back in soem simmilar way of using some jutsu for him i think it will be some frog jutsu.

I do think Jiraya is still alive, i mean really if he died id be pissed and cursin everywhere!I think jiraya made a purpose clue to make naruto think he was dead and open the ninth tail. that way hed kick pains ass to the curb then jiraya come back to life and naruto be able to control all nine tails!!!

when they said, he got away, it obviously meant the frog. I also think the death sucked cuz he barely had any part after the fast forward.
and joshua, maybe you’re the stupid one. there’s no complete guarantee that would happen. that is just a guess.
as for the uncompleted training, he sent the scroll with all the summons etc for naruto to use so naruto may figure out some way to train by himself. after all, most of jiraiya’s power is based on summonings.

also, for all you obito is alive fans, it already has been confirmed by itachi that madara is madara, though obito may still be alive anyways or is impersonating madara somehow though I really doubt that.
btw, is it just me or did that fight seem a lot weaker than most of the other akatsuki fights?

ok i agree with some ppl who say tht jiraiaya is still alive and hs prolly hibernating in the water or someone from his past is down in the water knowing tht hes going to use the last of his energy to go down there an protect him…. or he probably has someone who came with him to save him when hes about to die….it could even be that the frog pa gives his life to jiraya or they merge in a fusion type thing since the creator of naruto was a fan of dbz he prolly wants a fusion to happen

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JIRAIYA IS BY FAR THE COOLEST CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am REALY praying that he is some how alive., but even so if he did die, there is still propbably a chance that he can be revived later on like Garra was, only without someone else dying.
But eveen if he did die this death is s super rip off of some awsome books! in STARwARS Obi-Wan (Jiraiya) is a super powerful person of the highest order, and he gets killed off by his former apprentice, Darth Vader, (Pain) that he though wouild end up saving the world some day. But he did this to help save his younger appretice (Naruto), and help him eventually defeat Vader.
In Eragon(which is bassically just a ripoff of StarWars and Lord of the Rings combined) Brom{Jiraiya/Obi-Wan(all of whom actually happen to be the coolest guys in the entire storyline)} does the same thing bassically. in my opinion this is what Jiraiya did for Naruto. i also really hope that someone can revive him back to life agin, or that he comes to Naruto in a dream and tells Naruto to travel to a distant mountain where a mountain is, and inside of the mountain is a weird chamber( like the one in DBZ, where 1 minute here is 6 inside of the chamber, only i hope that in this case its one day in Naruto’s =1 year in the chamber) that Jiraiya found in his travels and Naruto spends between 10-20 days in there in whicch he can actualy train with Jiraiya and when he comes out he Knows everything that Jiraiya ever Knew and he is now an unofficial Toadsage. Naruto the would travel to another distant mountain and train with the toads for a week or so to become an official toad Sage. then being more powerful than Jiraiya ener was he could rip Pain to Shreds, kill the rest of Akatsuki, and fall for hinata and live happily ever after as the 6th Hokage, Known to history as the greatest and most powerful one that Honokana ever had.

I think that wud make naruto a bit too old for hinata since he wud be like 30, so she wud need to go in the time chamber too. also if jiraiya knew about it, how come he didnt become a super ninja in there aswell, no i think he will go to the mountain and there will be a dude with like 6 arms there and a diff sword in each hand like sephiroths and squalls etc and he will be able to grant no more then 10 wishes to naruto. first one will probs be some pootang, second will be a years supply of ramen probabaly, and the remanining ones will be a list of S class jutsu and a Buster Sword with a gun built in.

I don’t think Naruto will end up with Hinata… did you guys have a look at his mother? She kinda looks like Sakura (green eyes). And besides, if Orochimaru (Sasuke), Tsunade (Sakura) and Jiraiya (Naruto) are all related somehow, Naruto will end up with Sakura. Anyhow, I really have the feeling that Jiraiya is still alive.. . I hope so… he is a super – pervert he can’t die!! P.S. it sucks that Deidara had to die, well at least he went with a bang hehe

regarding the matter whether ero-sennin ( jiraiya sama ) is dead or not… my speculation is… for me… i believe that…
ERO-SENNIN IS NOT DEAD…!
why? let’s put it this way…
1. japanese manga’s and anime’s has some twist and turns in it’s story line… remember uchiha itachi’s clan annihilation issues? turns out to be his mission for the people of konoha to save them from coup de’ etat and another great ninja war… japanese writers love twist and turns, leaving their readers and audience craving for more…
2. japanese people are, up until now superstitious… there’s no omen that he’s gonna be dead, or he didn’t even appear in
tsunade-bachan or naruto’s dream ( since naruto is the closest person he has in the present story line ), unlike sandaime hokage sarotoubi when he’s about to die ( remember the day when konoha was attacked by the joint forces of oto and suna, his face sculpture cracked without a reason as noticed by konohamaru…? )…
3. have you noticed that in the scenario where he was sinking, it is not clear that he is dead, it’s just speculated by the supporting characters and pein even claimed that he did it… but no clear, physical and what not evidence that he is dead…
so, for me… i don’t believe that ero-sennin is dead… i believe that he’s just recovering from his injuries and gathering his strenght and one day, he will surprise naruto-chan and the people of konoha that he’s alive and kicking… or better yet, he transferred his soul to a frog or a summon to still guide naruto, the child stated in the prophecy… ( another case of spirit transmigration )

let me add this HISDEAD dude or dudette… even if you’ve seen kishimoto on a tv interview stating that ero-sennin is dead, there is still a possibility that he might put a twist to the story… for example, he states that ero-sennin is dead, it doesn’t mean that he is really dead…

Madara=tobi dunno if that was answered yet but that is the reason pain answers to tobi. Plus madara and itachi were actually doing kohona a favour when they killed off the uchiha clan apparently the uchihas were going to destroy kohona. I dont think jiraya dies since the author says he sinks into the lake im gonna keep my fingers crossed untill the ANBU or something recovers his body than ill beleive it

Didn’t jiraiya have a spy that was never revealed. It is very possible that jiraiya’s spy is in akatsuki and watched the fight from afar and waited for the right moment to help jiraiya. It is well known that jiraiya has had countless students.
Also zetsu has not always been the most obvious and revealing akatsuki member in regards to his allegiances.
There was no evidence that jiraiya is 100% confirmed dead.
And I searched for some kishimoto interview confirming jiraiya’s death…but nothing, some guy just made it up because he could not create a good argument.
So…jiraiya “MAY” very well be alive. Or at least I hope so for all of us.

I have a feeling jiraiya might make it. If he still in hermit mode. This is the first time we seen hermit mode. I don’t think hermit mode just gives Jiraiya super strenght he must get some attributes as well. Won’t water be better environment for hermit mode. Also for sage mode to work for naruto during training the pa frog told him that he would have to die first in order to harness nature energy. Maybe dying will help Jiraiya get to sage mode 2.

you made a lot of sense regarding this matter… as a matter of fact, jiraiya-sama or ero-sennin to naruto is somehow mysterious in his acts and skills even if he’s well knowned pervert and gallant and kage leveled shinobi and what not… and also, it’s up to kishimoto-sama if he’s going to kill ero-sennin or not… and i don’t think that kishimoto-sama would ever reveal his future works cos if he does, it’s a total spoiler… and most of us naruto fan would be disappointed of this spoiler… you’re also right about some guy that just claimed that he saw a kishimoto tv interview revealing jiraiya-sama’s demise… kishimoto-sama is not a stupid or a moronic person, story spoiling is a bad business… if jiraiya-sama is still alive, then that’s good… if he’s dead then so be it, there’s nothing we could and can do about it… this guy claiming that he saw kishimoto-sama’s tv interview is like the other fans who invented rumours of the hachibi’s true nature being an eight headed and tailed snake and the bijuu is orochimaru ( WTF! )… what i want to say to the guy who claims that ero-sennin is dead without any evidence is:

and when naruto was in the chuunin exams and Rock lee said “You can always leave it to naruto too have a trick up his sleve”….
well what im refering too is more or less the lines jiraiya spoke

if you connect the orochimaru and rock lee bit together you get a naruto and what does naruto more or less resemble

but those peirceing according too recent manga pages that they could or are the key too peins strength and thats how they move independantly, which accoring too the manga that pein fights from the shadows well more or less like a puppet master jutsu but on well, no on a whole higher lever than that, but mabey even greater than the yamanka clans jutsu’s
and these black peircing and chakra receptors..which means pein is using dead bodys (bodys of the shinoni Jiraiya killed)
which then leads me too say the weekness those bodys pocess which could be the key too removing the chakra receptors
and have the Aborame Clans bugs follow the signals of peins chakra which then leads too the thing im about too say.
i more or less predict that naruto will be able too harness the kyuubi’s power (all 9 nails) without the kyuubi comeing out

you could call that hermit mode…Hermit-Yin Mode, then naruto will unleash hell on peins ass…

you lot are all a bit fast. lol u need to be more observant. i dont think Jiraiya is dead hes my main man lol plus he hasn’t exactly done much now has he lol Kishimoto isn’t dumb. lol naruto has already surpassed jiraiya lol i hardly think thats fair. everyone read from 370 and follow everything about jiraiya and pain (together) to the point that Ino’s dad is mind reading the dead pains body. ive worked so hard on finding this theory i feel powerful lol i should get paid. anyway if u notice jiraiya left that ninja he asked for information in a hidden place of the rain country, then he transformed into him and ran into konan and used his silhouette technique and the ninja that he came out of looked exactly like the guy who he said he’ll keep for a while. so that person who jiraiya just came out from could actually be jiraiya lol its confusing but bear with me. so anyway that guy was later on seen asking questions to konan about pain when ino’s dad reads the dead pains mind lol and the body that was being transported at the time was the new summoner pain so it was definately after jiraiya’s “”soppesed death”". But i didnt recall Jiraiya letting the guy he took captive in the rain country for info free. sooo think aboot it everyone i think you should read this message twice its confusing but worth it. for all you Jiraiya fans out there ;).

Er… I think that Jiraiya is dead. Nagato knows Jiraiya well, I think YaKoNa team stayed with Jiraiya for a few years at least. Probably, Nagato knows his weakness. Finally, I don’t think with all these characters dying (Ebisu, Kakashi, Yahiko, probably soon to be Nagato..) Kishimoto wouldn’t suddenly bring a “minor”character back from the death. He also have reason to do this, as Naruto is fueled be Jiraiya’s death to defeat the other Paths of Pein/Pain and finally confronting Nagato in the paper tree.

I don’t think Jiraya is dead. I don’t believe that he achieved all the things the author had for him. I definitely knew that Jiraya was going to lose and get owned just like when pain, in the future, is going to use another jutsu( it somehow uses some sort of force or something he shoots out his hands) to crush konoha.
Not lying……Pain jumps in the air over konoha and shoots out an enormous force ball about the size of konoha and shoots it and crushes everything. i’m not sure if anyone important dies though but it shows konoha all destroyed, looks like kakashi is going to be killed by pain around that time though.
Well i hope i didn’t ruin anything for you. …….. yea i know i’m a douche.

Jiraiya did not die…!he will not live in the world,though..!he is now the wise elder guard in Frogs World..!he can’t go back to the real world anymore…!only one thing he could do is support Naruto in his SAGE mode..!you guys will still have a chance to see jiraiya after Akatsuki chapter..!

Jiraiya passed on all of his skills to naruto..!That one of his special jutsu..!..at the end jiraiya will warn naruto about a younger boy…who had hid himself in a village that has been abandoned…which he was more stronger than naruto..!Naruto at that time was 9th tail already…!plus being a 9th tail..Naruto will not look like a Fox..more of a human form..but with more detailed on his body..ancient writing!meaning Prophecy Child…!

Hey guys, this is my first response in a blog ever so i hope you all understand me. First of all Jiraiya is a cool guy. Besides that he’s a little pervy and not to bright, his style and coolness makes him in my top 10. But you have to face it guys, there is no way he can come back (not to be harsh or anything). There is no way he’s gonna turn into a frog statue and heal or revive by using a revival techinique (for all of those who are scared that I’ll ruin the story for you, I wont since I only watch the anime version (japanese)) because he had to go. It’s hard for us to admit (I know how you all feal, I’m still shocked that I didn’t cry watching that last episode) but he had to go. The story couldn’t go on if he’d stayed. But I’m sure we havent seen the last of him yet. He’s bound to come back, so I’m with you guys on that one. I’m gessing Pain or whatever will replace the destroyed body of “Six Paths” with Jiraiya that he killed (it would be so sad if it hapened but it would be so cool too). Also, it felt that Jiraiya’s moves and strenght was lacking. I’m not macking fun of him, I’m just saying that he has that Sage Mode technique which seems so strong just didn’t meet my espactations (even the giant Rasengan which was cool didn’t seem that strong by how Pein got poorly hurt. Anyways, back on track, Jiraiya is awesome, even if he admitted that he didn’t do/achieve anything in his life, I think he lived a successfull life as a ninja. Face it, raising the 4th Hokage (wickedly cool), Naruto’s godfather (I don’t know how the author came up with this stuff) and lastly, out of every good ninja in the story, he seemed to be the only one to search for peace and happiness for this world. Now, I would like to finish off by saying Jiraiya has inspired us all and will be (at least for most of us) remembered through the rest of the story. Thank you for everyone who has read this. I know it’s long but ‘ couldn’t help myself. Please feel free to respond me and I look forward to chating more with you guys. Long live Jirayia!

One thing we have learned from this series, is that long drawn out background stories are always revealed to those who it pertains to. Jiraiya’s background is too closely knit to naruto for him to die off this early and not have all that info be relayed in some cheesy naruto way. Plus we have also learned with main characters, that not just one battle is an “end all” in the series. There is usually a second, and the victor is the one who got their arse kicked in the first battle.
To me, this is obvious Jiraiya is not dead. There is no definitive ending to his death that we have seen. People that die in this series DIE as in, WE SEE THEM DIE! Everyone with a blurry “death” has been brought back lol Jiraiya and Tsunade still have unfinished shagging to do too lol

Naruto is annoying
Hinata is hotter than Sakura
Tsunade still has huge boobs
