Clannad 18 – The Good? Kyou cried! The Bad? Tomoyo’s story is freaking short!

Yes I do!
From the title of this post, I suppose you can roughly guess that I’m definitely not a Kyou fan. If that’s what you think, then you’re only 50% correct. The truth is, I hate her to the core, just like how I hate Yuasa Hiromi for being a bitch.
For quite a long period of time, Clannad has yet to leave me with any big impression, but it had successfully done so with episode 18.
I believe this is one episode which most people will either hate to the core or love 100%-ly. For me, it’s actually a mixture of the two. Sorry to anger any Kyou and Ryou fans here, but I still have to say that I just can’t stand them bitching around Tomoya trying to steal his affections from Nagisa and Tomoyo. I rather see Tomoya end up with Fuko than to let either Kyou or Ryou get him. Though Kyou is a rather popular Tsundere, I would still rather watch Nagisa and Fuko bicker over whether the Dango Daikazoku or the starfish is better than to sleep with a Kyou daikimura.
This made me 100% joyous…

I suppose this is where the story of Kyou and Ryou will end? They have already fulfilled the necessary conditions for a Key character to end her story:
1) They have cried.
2) They have left a deep and lasting impression on the viewers. (Yes, indeed!)
I sure hope the story won’t focus on them anymore so that there could be more episodes left for the Tomoyo After story. I would definitely love to see more of Tomoyo and Nagisa! They’re by far my favourite Clannad characters of all.

Just look at how elegant Tomoyo was after knowing that the guy whom she likes already had feelings for another girl. As expected of Tomoyo! At least she didn’t create a scene and cry like some girls as if they got kissed by Sunohara. This, to me, is why Tomoyo > Kyou + Ryou.

After getting excited over the tears of Kyou and Ryou, I’ve to say that I’m actually quite disappointed over Tomoyo’s life story. I believe we’ve already seen countless times of those kinds of scenes in other animes. In a nutshell, the story can be summarized as such: The parents were quarrelling and because of an interference by their child, the family was restored. Trust Key to come up with such cheap plot for Tomoyo!
Tomoyo is definitely one of the major and most popular characters in Clannad and to end her life story in just one single episode is a huge failure! I expected it to last for around three or four episodes like Kotomi’s but it was rather disappointing to see it end in a blink of an eye. It wasn’t heart wrenching and emotional at all and in fact, it was pretty boring, at least to me.
I just hope that the next six episodes of Clannad would be able to tie up all loose ends and deliver us a wonderful and complete Clannad. Still, I won’t mind if KyoAni repeats what they did for Air. It would be great for Clannad to have a few extra episodes depicting the Tomoyo After story. 24 episodes just ain’t enough to satisfy us Clannad fans!

I like, don’t even watch Clannad but Kyou and Tomoya are my favourite characters. And isn’t there a season 2 anyway?

Clannad won’t have Tomoyo after in it, as Taiyaki has stated, but there’s always the possibility of an OVA or something. Or perhaps Toei might pick it up (Though highly unlikely).

The project is to end School part in epi 22, and then 23 and 24 are OVA. There is no AS invovled in the animation (it’s not possible, AS and Tomoyo AS are way too long to be in the anime…plus…I DON’T LIKE THE ENDING OF TOMOYO AS). I like Kyou and Tomoyo equally thou, one is super barbarous, and one is super strong…PERFECT…LOL, play the game, man, then you will love Kyou! Btw, I hate Ryou thou, hate her to core, if you want the reason, go find it in the game please.
PS. To people who want to see Tomoya and Tomoyo together, play the game Clannad, and play the Tomoyo After~It’s A wonderful Life~, then many of you might change your mind of making them together……..(Doesn’t mean it’s horrible, it’s just sooooo sad)

dude kyou is like one of my favorite characters! you SUCK! kyou is funny, cute, and awsome down to the core man! I think tomoya and kyou should have been together…waaa!

I loved that episode! I felt so bad for Nagisa when all the other girls started bothering Tomoya behind her back! And Tomoyo is great too, she’s a really nice and understanding person. Like near the end of the series when she says to Nagisa “I’m glad it was you” and Kyou and Ryou nearly cry again! HAHA!!

Actually, I take that back Nagisa doesn’t suck, she’s kinda cute but Ryou is really boring, she has her funny moments like the yuri one, but she’s boring me to death and becomes really selfish later, but Kyou is the best darn sexiest character in that series.

Everyone has their likes/dislikes. I didn’t like Ryou and Nagisa, their too soft. Ryou is cute! But my favorite was Tomoyo, i love a girl that can kick my ass :p. I liked the OVA way more than the entire series because it was about Tomoyo and Tomoya :)

I love all the characters including Nagisa but once you see the After Story you’ll understand why Tomoya and Nagisa will and for always be together.

I wanted kyou and tomoya to be together!!! MAN!!!! i hate when something you want doesnt come :’( but in my opinion nagisa wasnt the best choice for tomoya. maybe kyou or tomoyo would’ve been the best anime everr!!

Resurrecting this for posterity:
In the Clannad VN (Visual Novel), it’s possible to have Tomoya in a romantic relationship with each of the main female characters, OR – if that’s not really possible (Mei, Misae) – help them have their romance. If anyone thinks that Tomoyo or Kyou or Ryou is “more cute with”, go play the Make Your Own Ending game version. ;-) (there’s a nice English patch, even if not without its fair share of bugs) I, for one, prefer the Ryou+Kappei ending (and absolutely couldn’t stand the Kyou ending, as it was REALLY drawn out and just… well, go play, You’ll see)
There are a lot of things missing from the anime (Kotomi, for example, has been so dumbed down as to make me gag on my own vomit). It feels like the game, sure, and its strongest selling point is that – well, it’s an anime. But chara-development-wise, trying to fit 8 LONG arcs of a game into twenty-something episodes of anime leaves us with… uhm… personality stubs, and not much more. “The point is across? Let’s move on.” For the perfect example of this, I must agree with OP – it’s Tomoyo’s arc.
So, if You end up coming to this thread wondering if You should play the game after (or instead of) watching the anime – YES, DO SO. The anime is a nice fill-in, and it really feels nice to watch it, but… let’s just say, it’s nice to “have the record straight” first.
To repeat STRONGLY: if You believe that “[female chara name] and Tomoya should’ve been together” – GO PLAY THE VN, and make it so. It IS rewarding.
My strongest disappointment with the anime? For me, Kotomi’s Arc in the VN is one of the best. In the anime… it’s probably one of the worst. Which also translates into “anime’s Kotomi is but a shadow of what you can find in the VN”. I cried like a fracken baby, esp. the scissors part.
Also. WHERE THE FRACK IS YUKINE MIAZAWA’S ARC in the anime?! The two (or three?) episodes she BRIEFLY appears in?! (Mei’s, Kappei’s, Koumura’s, Misae’s and Sunohara+Sanae’s arcs being missing – I understand…)

I don’t really think they’re going to implement the Tomoyo After story into the series since it involves Tomoya and Tomoyo being in a romantic relationship.
