Naruto 393 – Itachi is DEAD! Sasuke had taken his revenge!

Summary
The chapter begins with Itachi telling Sasuke that his eyes belong to him now, and that he would take them slowly as he wanted to savor that moment.
All of a sudden, Itachi coughed out blood and Sasuke took advantage of the situation and threw kunais at him. However, they were deflected by Susanoo. Itachi began to walk towards Sasuke and Sasuke took out a scroll and summoned lots of kunais with explosive tags on them and he aimed them all at Itachi. Still, it was a futile attempt.
Zetsu explained that that shield was another supernatural item and it’s called Yata’s Mirror. It’s basically a shield that can deflect any physical attacks. Combined with the Sword of Totsuka for offense, Itachi’s completely invincible.
Sasuke made one last attempt to kill Itachi using his sword. Still, it was useless and he was driven to a corner and had nowhere to run. Itachi was about to pluck off his eyes when SUDDENLY, he had no strength left and he just fell to the ground. Sasuke had won the fight, by sheer luck.

Personal Opinions
Oh my, I REALLY hate this conclusion to the Uchiha brothers’ fight. The ending was predictable – Sasuke will not die since he’s one of the main characters. Itachi would be the one to die or better still, both will survive. So the ending is that Itachi died. It’s not that I hate this ending, but the way this is shown is really shitty.
Itachi was SO close in achieving his aim when all of a sudden, due to intense fatigue or the side-effects of Susanoo, he simply dropped dead. I’d expected the ending to be much cooler, like Sasuke defeating Itachi with a cool new technique he formulated himself. Well, we’ve seen that with Kirin but it had disappointed us. Now, Sasuke is declared the winner just because Itachi can’t carry on. This is SO UNCOOL AND SO UNFAIR TO ITACHI.
Well, I hope the next fight between Tobi and the Konoha ninjas would not be as shitty as this. Also, I hope Masashi won’t show Kisame’s fight first. That’s the last fight which I would want to see…
So Akatsuki is left with Tobi, Pain, Konan, Zetsu, and Kisame. I suppose Naruto will end very soon with the main antagonists dropping dead one after another at such a rapid rate…

The reason Sasuke didn’t get to kill Itachi in a brilliant display of skill, is because this entire revenge was suppose to be pointless. Sasuke was denied what he wanted, to kill his own brother, because the story made it clear that it was the wrong path to take. Itachi might have died, but Sasuke was the loser.

naruto is still weak compare to sasuke, in terms of speed & jutsu!!..he needs really to train again…WTF during the 2.5 yrs with jiraiya, did he only learn odama rasengan only???…without kyuubi’s help he is weak!!!…sasuke gain speed, what about naruto?? only kage bunshins & odama!!!…f*** :-(

Well,If Sasuke didn’t have Curse Mark or Sharingan,Naruto would be able to beat him.And who knows?Naruto might be stronger than Sasuke.Maybe they’re not showing it.(P.S. Naruto Knows Sage Mode.)

I disagree, Naruto has gained other things besides the Omada, and Clones. He learned to control up to 3 tails, which is shown in the Orochimaru Fight, but loses control at four tails. Also, he has learned how to use his mind a bit, as shown in the test against Kakashi.
At this point in time, Naruto’s jutsu are limited compared to Sasuke. @ Itachithelegend: Naruto does not know sage mode at this point in time. He learns that when fighting Pein.
Sasuke, trained under Orochimaru, mastering both fire and lighting jutsu’s. He defeated, Orochimaru. Defeated Itachi. Which was what Itachi wanted. Itachi wanted to die by Sasuke’s hands. As Madara//Tobi explained, what really happened in Konaha and why Itachi really killed the Uchiha clan. Sasuke’s revenge moved on towards the whole Leaf Village. Sasuke, is far stronger than Naruto I admit that. At least during the Itachi Sasuke fight. But, by the Hidan Kakuzo arc, Naruto knows Rasen-Shuriekein and is mastering wind style jutsu’s. And then after that he goes to the frog realm and learns sage mode. By this point, Sasuke no longer has the curse mark, but he has the Eternal Magengyo Sharringan, just like Madara//Tobi.

I’ll call this one a draw. But I mean he just died out of the blue?!? I mean he could of just fainted but then it comes to the same sasuke would kill him. There’s got to be (or I hope) more to it. If thats the end then i’m disappointed.

well i heard that itachi was already sick and prolonging his life by medication to fight sasuke. thats why he was coughing up blood. the source i got this from was i think volume 43, when tobi was talking to sasuke.

anybody thought that itachi didnt kill his clan or his best friend? instead was truly the good big brother. but he found out there was somebody who did kill their clan and wanted sasuke to think it was him so that he would hate him and become stronger and avenge them. the thing is did sasuke see itachi kill them with his own hands? or was it just seeing him standing there with their dead bodies and then using mangekyo on him?

itachi could have been a good brother that didnt mind his reputation being sullied as the killer of his clan and this fight was actually a test to see how much sasuke had grown.thats why at the end he flicked his forehead. which will leave sasuke thinking like all of us. was it all out of some twisted love to make him stronger to find the real killer of uchiha.

I thought this was a pretty fitting ending. It would have been cheap for Sasuke to flat-out kill Itachi, because that would destroy any character development as brothers they had before. By adding the forehead poke, it really gave the fight some emotional value. I can’t wait to see Sasuke’s reaction!

This was a good ending to the fight, both brothers using every last bit of their techniques and energy to try and kill one another, and then the one who killed the whole family dies and pokes his little brother on the head just as he did in earlier times, magnificent. And plus the added tension of wether Sasuke will tunr the tables and take itachi’s eyes, or just kill him or let him die.

The part I enjoyed the most was how completely helpless sasuske was near the end. He looked like he was shitting bricks right at the end. I was hoping Itachi could reach his goal but I knew it wasn’t going to happen so I dunno the ending wasn’t great but far from bad. Especially the *poke* part that was so symbolic.

I’m somewhat satisfied. Only Itachi can kill Itachi in a 1 on 1 battle. I’m glad it’s over. I was tired of it. I’m ready to see what Naruto & gang can do.

Its difficult for me to believe that Itachi is dead just like that. I mean sure, I know the toll that Susanoo and all his other Mangekyou sharingan moves had taken on him, but really. I mean if someone as weak and lame a character as Orochimaru (no offense to Orochimaru fans, this is just my opinion) can still live, why not Itachi? We know that Itachi is WAY stronger than Orochimaru and always will be. …..Ugh >< This whole battle has ticked me off. Although I must admit, the poking of Sasuke’s forehead at the end was a great touch, and I think thats a part of what made the ending of this battle so great.

I think that it ended appropriately, but the fact that they wasted a whole Manga episode to do this was disappointing. I’m not sure that Itachi is dead. It seemed like Tobi and him might be teamed up, so maybe Tobi will come help? I really hope there is more to this story, but I’d also like a change of scenery. Let’s see if Naruto can take on Tobi…? Don’t laugh too hard everyone.

i think that itachi is sitll alive. i mean at the end u saw something was in sasuke’s pants. and then itatchi dies and you see the snake that you saw in the beginning. and then you see itatchi dead but if you look on his right arm he has what looks like the cursed seal. i think orochimaru saw how good itachi was and decided to get his body instead of sasuke’s. hmm. just a thought.

yes you see the snake, but itachis amateratsu burnt that basterd, but do you know whats crazy i think that was orochimaru trying to escape. now thats something to think about.
hes still alive (orochi i mean) part of him is in kabuto.
and sasuka did not kill itachi people.
and it was never itachis in-tension to kill sasuke.
he wanted to die to give sasuke the power to protect
konoha.
oh and he also wanted naruto.
but not to kill him but to take him and leave the akastski.
itach was always good
and had to chose between his clan and his village.
he chose the better.
but left a successor.

It does look like the curse seal but thats almost impossible. Orochimaru was never as strong as itachi. I dont see how he would be able to bite him. Its a intersting burn pattern but nothing else

Actually, what happened/happens between these two brothers doesn’t really matter to me. I’m sick and tired of all this talk about the Sharingan, Madara, Sasuke, Itachi. Heck, they should rename this manga to “Uchiha” instead of Naruto.
And in an interview somewhere (lost the link), Kishimoto said that he’ll be covering Kakashi after this fight and that Naruto will have to wait. Meh.

By all means, sasuke had gotten stronger; forbidden jutsus, medicinal pills, absorbing Orochimaru.. But besides all that we all should know that this was a gay way for Itachi to die. He shouldve been able to wipe his ass with sasuke! but the damn creator’s favoritism shows even when the facts should speak louder.

Did NOBODY notice that Itachi said something to Sasuke on the 2nd to the last page, but the words were greyed out. After Itachi’s comment, Sasuke had a shocked look, as if he finally learned the truth.
Now what is the truth? Who knows…it’ll be revealed another chapter. But I’m guessing Itachi says something like “You’re finally strong enuf to beat Madara, I’ve been waiting all this time, now take my eyes!”.

i think the ending was exactly wat the end of this fight needed. the POKE was a nice touch. anyway i wonder wat kishimoto is doing with kakashi after this fight here are my predictions
tobi will be revealed and i think he COULD be obito or madara.
tobi will take kakashis sharingan eye because it is assumed that he has only one sharingan eye.
something will happen between kyuubi and tobi(maybe a talk between the 2 in narutos self conciuos)

zzzz I think you may be on to something with your theory, but couldn’t it also be possible for Itachi to have been having flashbacks before he collapsed? When he said something that wasn’t audible, he might have said something to Sasuke as if he were still a kid, like before he killed the clan, which would also explain why he poked him instead of still trying to grab the eyes until the very end. Its just a thought.

I thinkk this was the only real way Masashi could end the brother revenge story, cus now sasuke never REALLY got his revenge and can learn his lesson or whatever. But it was diasspaointing that sasuke was barley capeable of taking on Itachi….but who knows whats gonna happen next now that orochimaru is dead and itachi is dead…where will sasuke go now, i dont think he’l just run back to conhona with open arms…

it’s a good ending.. sasuke will probably regret the path he took. because deep down inside him.. he knows he loves his brother. and when itachi poked him in the forehead, this brought him back. i also think orochimaru is alive, and that snake will take over itachi’s body.. and have his wish.

This was on of the best naruto endings ever. ive been watching anime for along time so i expected more of the “sasuke releases special technique and finishes itachi.either way if Itachi was evil or not he had the best death and fight in the series, so far. Second would be Jiraya then maybe the third.funniest would be Orichimaru (both times) and the worst would be on of my best characters Asuma

Itachi WAS pushed to the limit by sasuke, but if you payed attention to Zetsu you’ll realise that he was already severely injured BEFORE the battle. Therefore if he was at full strength I’m pretty sure Itachi would’ve had the strength to take Sasuke’s eyes. However with the knowledge that Itachi had to die, at least it was in a cool way. Can’t wait to see what Madara thinks when his prize pupil is dead though!

I do wonder if Itachi really does love Sasuke, all this while.
But somehow the ending has drawn to a rather…anticlimatic ending, if you will.
I have neutral feelings about this. On one hand it feels incomplete and abrupt.
On the other, it feels strangely…fitting.

sasuke is a bastard. i honestly like itachi way better. the ending to the chapter was rather abrupt, but, the poke on the forehead…. it was a brilliant touch. i hope itachi is not really dead, just passed out from chakra exhaustion or something. but then, if thats true, sasuke will just kill him. back to my rant on sasuke, revenge is such a pointless road to take, i mean what are you gonna do after you kill that person (itachi) ?! also, i bet if he (sasuke) were to go back to konoha, the council would welcome him ith open arms… all because of that stupid sharingan. If your heart stops, you’re dead. It doesn’t matter how strong you were. If your body gives out, that’s it. No debates. Itachi’s heart stops? Dead.

Itachi despite his weakened and nearly blind state defeated
and cornered Sasuke with his final move, the Susanoo technique,
but both succumbed to massive wounds before Itachi could reap his reward.
All I can do now is wait and hope that he’s still alive.

the only reason itachi lost was
a. he wanted sasukes eyes for himself which is why he didn’t use susanno in the 1st place and
b. he got cocky
However despite the obsortion of orochimaru, the cursed seal, kirin and all sasukes other moves, the fact is that itachi is/was
the stronger brother, i mean hypethetically speaking if itachi had aquired new eyes from someone else, he would have destroyed sasuke quite easily, and even in this fight he was partially blind and he still kicked the shit out sasuke before he died.
I still think he’s alive, but orochimaru in the form of that small white snake will absorb him

CONCERNING THE LIFE-SPAN OF UCHIHA MADARA!!
So after a good thinking i finally found that uchiha madara can indeed live for soooooooo long but how???!!!! here is my thought:
remember uchiha madara has a permanent mangekyou sharingan but how not to waste his power in a short life time??. He took the help of pein who has the rinnegan eye, through pein’s ability which has the capacity of transferring a soul into another body!!!..madara took the body of UCHIHA OBITO which of course was in the region where ZETSU lived (grass village i think)..yea obito after giving 1 of his sharingan to kakashi, died. Tobi is just Uchiha Madara, and Itachi is not weak to die like this, I think this is just a way to take Sasuke away from akatsuki, and Itachi will not take Sasuke´s eye until he have a Mangekyou Sharingan, the question is, how many time Orochimaru will die? I don’t think that itachi is really dead. I mean, think about it he held back on a lot of things. Like the shuriken he could have dodged it so easily and what about the snake. In one of the last pictures in that issue you see a SNAKE come out. Orochimaru may have held back and simply poisoned Itachi to paralyze him, and Tobi says there is a truth about Itachi that Sasuke needs to know. So for now lets not say that he is dead, I have not seen his body, and remember when Kakashi and all of them got there where is the body??? Why hide it

I agree with the notion that this is a brilliant ending. Itachi poking Sasuke’s forehead like he used to is adorable, yet the way he just drops dead is very macabre. The whole event is just so chilling.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Itachi poked Sasuke rather than taking his eyes because he knew he was fighting a losing battle. He wanted to force the best out of Sasuke and he did. Had he not died, he would’ve almost certainly taken Sasuke’s eyes and killed him. The fact that he knew he was going to die due to the extreme strain brought on by Susanoo, to me, supports the idea that he consciously didn’t kill Sasuke. If anything, the fact that he went to such extremes in the first place support the idea that he just wanted to force the best out of Sasuke so as to prime him for possibly taking on Madara. Who knows…
I honestly loved this end to the fight. To be honest, it would’ve been boring if it had ended with some new Jutsu by Sasuke, as MOST fights end that way, =/

For the people who say that Obito is Tobi, you are wrong. Maybe you should watch the Original Naruto. It says in the episodes or i should say flashbacks of Sasuke and itachi that Obito’s body was found, and he was dead, besides, Madara is obviously Tobi.

Actually, I think it was indeed a great ending, in my opinion, though I am rather depressed about Itachi dying. -.- But I loved the fact how Itachi poked him in the forehead before he died, and that was rather.. brotherly. :D If you go to wikinaruto and look up Itachi Uchiha you will learn more about Itachi, how he’s really a good man, and stuff like that. :) Makes me kind of sad thinking about how he accepted to die as a criminal.

Nah i think it was quite fitting. The poke on the head was just legendary and a great touch, without that, yeah it would be a bit shit, and i guess alll this time wasted on the uchiha arc, plus the fact its been going on in the wholeee series practically, i would have expected something better, but i think this is the way it should be, because if sasuke ended up killing his brother , or if itachi ended up taking his eyes ,it would kill the whole “brother” thing and sasuke would probably be even more messed up then he already is, no offence, i love sasuke!! seriously, just saying. plus itachi was a good brother to him previously, they’re both just rreally…twisted lol, but i love them both to bits and when i read this bit i was like ‘HOLY SHIT NO” .

I still think the ending was a total wast of time…they get us all worked up about how Sasuke is going to kill Itachi and then,when it finally gets to that part,Sasuke didn’t even “REALLY” kill him ‘cuz Itachi died on his own time.He could’ve saved his own ass if he didn’t give Sasuke his own strength…and he would still be alive now if he didn’t.The whole series was a complete wast of time…it didn’t even explain it that well either.They should make a remake of the whole thing starting from the part as to when Sasuke leaves-when he kills Itachi.That is how they should remake the whol thing…starting at that very moment as to when he left Konohagakure…!!!!What a complete wast of my time…

Spoiler alert. Madara explains to Sasuke that Itachi did not kill Sasuke on that fateful day where he murdered his entire clan because he couldn’t. Konoha gave Itachi the mission to kill off his clan because they were about to start trouble in Konoha. Since Itachi loves his village so much, he obliged to doing so. But he could not kill his brother because of his love for him. All the talk about hate, was to make Sasuke stronger and stronger so that he could fend for himself when Itachi died. Read the manga next manga chapter, it is pretty touching.

Ive read manga and naruto grows to be stronger than sauske becuase naruto battles all 6 pains and he defeats them all because naruto learns to become a sage and becomes more powerfuller than sauske now and when they fight naruto will win with the power of sage and not even using the kyubi power and naruto’s dad is the 4th hokage.

itachi let sasuke win. He joined the akatsuki in order to spy on madara (tobi). He was with the leaf from the begining Even in the original naruto when he came to capture the 9 tails he was there mearly to show danzo that he was still alive. Itachi wanted sasuke to win so that the village can see him as a hero and so that sasuke could reform the uchiha and defeat madara. However even after all that sasuke hates the village even more and has joined madara. Madara tells sasuke that if itachi used his full power they wouldn’t be talking. So all in all itachi can rape sasuke (= and he’s still loyal to the village. He’s a true hero of the leaf i believe along with the fourth.

So Ichigo comes to fight Itachi and releases his bankai on Itachi’s Susanoo, Sasuke actually gets back up from the bleach crew. Ichigo goes hollow form on Itachi and rips him a new leaf ass and uses his eyes to form a new type, Sharingan Shinigami Hollow combination with pork and vegetables. The Japs are over the top.

Itachi fought Sasuke so Sasuke will use up all his chakra so Orochimaru will be out of the body of Sasuke. Itachi just want to remove Orochimaru from Sasuke because at the ending Orochimaru has been burned by the ameterasu of Itachi ameterasu is called a fire which will not be litted off until the target enemy is not be burned to death.
Itachi also whispered that “He is sorry” for what he have done to Sasuke, in Japanese: Sumimasen Sasuke kun. observe it and you will notice it. Sasuke was then so frightened and surprised to what happened if you will observe.

I totally hated the ending in the manga AND the anime. Although the poke at sasuke brought me to a waterfall of tears, I can’t believe Itachi died of the effects of his Jutsu (or on a lamer note, fatigue and illness >_<). I, with no shame, am an Itachi fangirl, I think he is sweet, smexy and a total hunk of HOT! But I believe the ending was a total insult to Itachi and was too predictable for a mysterious guy like him. I say good job on the art Kishimoto-sensai, no doubt, but you could have done sooooooooo much better on the storyline. I mean, mix it up, have Itachi confess to not having to do with the decision to kill the Uchihas and have Sasuke love his big Bro again! (then have them team up to kill Konaha for creating this mess ^/-\^)
For any Itachi fangirls out there who hated this ending as much as I did, I feel your pain. And to fangirls (especially Sasuke fangirls) who liked this ending, you have the right to your opinion, I respect that, and I have the right to think you're stupid (but no hard feelings).

If you read the manga the one when sasuke is talking to madara (volume 44) he says that itachi was crying when he was leaving the village… i also heard a rumor that the itachi the sasuke killed was just a clone like the one naruto fought except this one was alot stronger…. AND if the do get all the tailed-beast who is gonna controll it wouldnt they need itachi’s eye to control it like madara did the nine tails when it attacked konoha….

Alright, here is my theroie. Itachi was ordered by the leaf village to kill the unchiha clan but he didnt kill his brother because he loves him. (I dont know why they would want to kill the unchiha clan it’s just a theroie!) I also think that he joined the akatsuki because he’s a spy for the leaf village. I must say this summary is incorrect Itachi never intended to pluck Sasuke’s eyes. He just poke Sasuke’s forehead like he used to in their childhood. Actually the poking of Sasuke’s forehead had two things that affected the story. First off, it’s obvious that this had to do with the fact that Itachi always did this to Sasuke when they were younger. Second, if you remember, Itachi was transferring all of his known justu and abilities to his little brother in order to protect him from Tobi (Madara). That way, Sasuke would never know about the actual truth with Itachi and Konoha’s connection with the Uchiha Clan. If the Madara had been killed by Itachi trap that were set in Sasuke’s eyes, no one would actually know this at all. Actually, if the Creator of Naruto had done this to us we would find out eventually because Naruto finds out more about sasuke than anyone else so it very possible that would’ve found and he still might learn about it later on. But since we, the readers don’t like reading the same thing twice that might not happen…

itachi did not lose…. he was much stronger than sasuke….. even if he had improved…. itachi just could not kill his little brother… he could have killed him many times in the past… but he didn’t… and eventually we learnt the truth about itachi and why he killed his clan…. ( poor itachi ) he sufffered all alone…. he also was ill…. and he wanted his (foolish) little brother to kill him in the end…. he also died with a smile….. he is the best character ITACHI…. Itachi killed the Uchiha clan with Madara’s aid but disobeyed the Konaha Council’s and Danzo’s orders to eliminate Sasuke bcuz he waz a very loving, caring, and protective bro to Sasuke. when Itachi tapped Sasuke with his fingers, he waz transferring his powers to Sasuke, and placing Amaterasu in Sasuke’s Sharingan eyes. When Tobi/Madar Uchiha came and collected Sasuke to try to get Sasuke on Akatsuki’s side, the minute their eyes met, Itachi’s Amaterasu/Mangekyo were released. Itachi waz wanting to keep Sasuke from learning the truth. Itachi also wanted the Amaterasu flames to kill Madara on eye contact with Itachi’s beloved brother, Sasuke Uchiha. However when Sasuke affiliated with Akatsuki to slaughter Konaha, he seemed to have failed. But, Itachi had a backup plan; he gave some power to Naruto for the case that they met in battle. But Itachi wanted to get two birds with 1 stone (the two birds being Itachi and Madara). The original plan for Itachi was to die by Sasuk’e hand and if Madara came along, implant a lot of chakra into an Amaterasu attack powerful enough to kill Madara, thus leaving Sasuke as the only Uchiha alive. If that were to happen then Sasuke would more than absolutely return to Konaha his mission complete.

The ending was perfect, it was done to pull forth emotions in the reader. To bind you to the pain Sasuke feels. Later when it is revealed to him that Itachi has been dying and would have killed Sasuke if he really wanted to. (conversation between Sasuke and “Madara”) “Madara” talked about how he was not fighting like he used to or usually would. All of this leads you to Itachi’s true intentions.
This was masterfully done and captured every bit of emotion you should feel. The pain you should feel for the both of them.

Dude itachi didnt just drop dead he had a faal sickness the only side effects of susano’o r u go blind and itachi planned on dying by sasuke so it wasnt luck

You do know that itachi was never going to steal sasuke’s eyes right? Madara (a.k.a tobi) explains it all at the end of naruto volume 43. Itachi could never hurt his brother. Read book 43 then post. Don’t asume things.

Great indeed! but left my heart broken when Itachi poked sasuke’s forehead and said “Forgive me Sasuke, this will be the last time!” It only shows that Itachi loves his brother so much, and is proud that sasuke grew strong and powerful. There’s so much mystery in Itachi’s intentions and I can’t wait for these to be revealed!

one of the most intense fights ever sibling riveraly that even comes to the very end even in the darkest of souls there is light and itatchi gave saska that one and only spark to show him how proud he was of him all in all very good ending two thumbs up.

Actually personally I think this was a really brilliant ending. When Itachi was just about to take Sasuke’s eyes but instead pokes him on the forehead was such a brilliant touch. It puts so many questions as Itachi used to that to Sasuke when he was a kid, like poking him when he asked for help with kunai training and then later a few times more.
The basic tension in Sasuke is because of the conflicting memories of his brother – either a really good elder brother (who used to help him and poke his head to make fun of him) or as the man who killed his clan. NOw at the end of this fight he will still be conflicted as to Itachi’s intent. Did Itachi lose deliberately to his brother? or was he proud of the fight Sasuke had put up when Itachi had given his best? and what was Itachi’s intent and motivation?
This episode was also brilliantly drawn.

itachis also my fav cherecter but im happy for sasuke he got new eyes and hes much stronger and he made his brother go to hes limits i was surprised sasuke really improved =P

i think that itachi wanted the next best candidate from the uchiha clan to replace him in the long run (after he has made a name for himself), and since sasuke was his brother, he would be the perfect person with the right qualities and structure”ghost of itachi” will live on through
sasuke. If itachi did not die, then sasuke would not deserve to walk in itachis shoes and woudve got his eyes gauged out
