A Town Where You Live

5 days: That’s how long it took for me to finish all 103 episodes of D.Gray-man. What followed was a deep feeling of emptiness, as a great shounen series has once again come to a stop.

But wait a moment, this post ain’t about D.Gray-man. It’s about a new manga which I’ve just picked up 2 days ago and it has successfully filled the hole in my heart created by D.Gray-man.

Being a regular at One Manga, I’ll usually load the page now and then to see if my favourite shounen mangas have been released yet or not. Tired of the wait, I decided to see if there are any other interesting mangas worthy as a side-read. I looked through the list of Top Viewed Shounen Manga and I’ve seen before almost every title on that list. The only one which looked totally foreign to me was Kimi no Iru Machi. With a bored look on my face which was leaning on my left hand, my right hand lazily moved the mouse towards the manga title and clicked. I would never regret what I’ve done.

Before I go on, let’s see what One Manga has to say about the series:

Eba Yuzuki, a girl from Tokyo moves to a countryside to attend high school. She lives together with a guy named Kirishima Haruto whose father is an apprentice of Eba’s father. Haruto never agrees Yuzuki staying at his house and always rejects her. There comes another girl character named Kanzaki Nanami, whom Haruto might have fell in love with. So… what will happen in the story?

Well, at first glance, this seems to be quite a boring and typical triangle love story which I believe most of you have definitely seen it in idol dramas. At first, I was pretty skeptical about it too, but seeing that it’s ranked 17 on One Manga, I told myself, “Hey, it can’t be anywhere that bad if it’s so popular, can it?”

I was right. The manga just captivated me thoroughly for 2 days in which I finished everything at one go.

The Good

Instinctively, the first thing that I (and I believe everyone else) look out for in a romance manga is that the characters have to be well-drawn, especially the lead characters. After all, who will want to read a romance manga if the lead male character is Crayon Shin Chan? And no, I’m not targeting the late Yoshito Usui. His character designs are definitely great for comedic effects, but they fail for romance mangas.

The Leading Female Characters: Yuzuki Eba and Nanami Kanzaki

Since I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read the manga yet, I shan’t reveal anything in the story then. All I can say is, it captivated me thoroughly, allowing me to finish all 74 chapters in just one day. I believe this experience will stand true for most of you. Just give it a try!

The Bad

The only thing which I dislike about the plot is how Kanzaki’s feelings change so easily.

Before

Due to some misunderstandings beforehand, Kirishima earned a tight slap from Kanzaki.

After

However, her feelings for him changed abruptly, causing her love for him to reignite again.

Sorry, but it’s way too fast for me to accept that. There wasn’t any development on the 2 of them before the sudden change in Kanzaki’s feelings. Nonetheless, I’m definitely rooting for Kirishima and Kanzaki! I guess I’m a sucker for tsunderes like Kanzaki :D

After all, Kanzaki was Kirishima’s first crush, and Eba is just a side character who entered the lives of the 2 of them. I sure hope that Kirishima’s reply to Kanzaki’s confession in chapter 75 will be a positive one.

Conclusion

Alright, I shall stop spoiling the story for those who haven’t read it. Once again, I strongly recommend this manga to those who love romance stories (and tsunderes). Go give it a try! The only opportunity cost is your time anyway, and that’s not much of a big deal. I sure hope an anime series for this manga will air soon, and that will definitely be on my watch-list.

Now that I’ve finished reading until the latest chapter of the manga, I guess I shall move on to other series. Recommendations, anyone?

"Why does he always say things which make people misunderstand! That idiot."

And I don't mind being an idiot like Touma.
