Misaka Mikoto Onee-sama!
It’s been such a long time since I’ve been this hyped-up over anime opening songs. Previously, I was hooked on eufonius’ Megumeru ~cuckool mix 2007~, and had always then been looking forward to their next release, which was the opening song for True Tears, titled Reflectia.
Right now, the song which keeps repeating itself on my music player is, no doubt, LEVEL5 -judgelight- by fripSide. They have produced yet another epic song after only my railgun.

After hearing the song for the first time, I knew that it was going into my MP3 player for sure. I’ve this tendency to rate songs based on how many times I take to fully enjoy it. For example, if I feel that I’m in love with the song only after hearing it once, then it’s definitely a 5-stars song for me. Anytime more than that, the rating will go down. Maybe I should come up with my own rating system for anime songs someday…
While the song is great, I’ve to admit that I’m not really impressed by the graphics, as it seems to place too much emphasis on Misaka Mikoto alone instead of the 4 of them as a whole. This can be seen at the start and at the end of the opening song, where only Mikoto is present. Although I admit that I’m a fanboy of Misaka Mikoto (who else is with me!?), I’ll definitely love to see the 4 of them together more often. Another thing which got me pretty sad was that Accelerator didn’t appear at all in the opening song. I guess he’s not going to make any appearance in the rest of the anime, even though there’s a major story arc dedicated to him in the manga…
Nonetheless, the fight scenes in the opening are definitely breathtaking, and the fast-paced song blends in with the scenes perfectly, making the last 30 seconds an extremely enjoyable watch.

I guess it’s inevitable for people to make comparisons between the 2 fripSide songs, only my railgun and LEVEL5 -judgelight-. Both are definitely excellent techno songs to me, but if I were to make a choice, I guess I’ll go for only my railgun. It’s a slightly more upbeat song than LEVEL5 -judgelight-, and it never fails to get my heart racing and think of the epic scene when Mikoto was fighting the fetus back in episode 12.
So, which of the 2 openings by fripSide do you prefer?

i prefer only my railgun! at first i didn’t like the new op but the more i listen to level 5 judgelight the more i kinda like it. hmmm. the scenes for the new op seems better, and for the new ed FAR better than the old one.
